Standards Development Unit

Als het nationale instituut voor normen is de SSB verantwoordelijk voor het opstellen, aannemen, ontwikkelen, onderhouden en aanmoedigen van de toepassing van normen. Bij de SSB is de Standards Development Unit (SDU) verantwoordelijk voor de ontwikkeling en herziening van standaarden. Deze eenheid beheert en coördineert het werk van verschillende technische comités, bestaande uit vertegenwoordigers van relevante groepen belanghebbenden en technische deskundigen die bijdragen aan de algemene ontwikkeling van nationale normen. Normen worden op een groot aantal gebieden ontwikkeld door technische comités bestaande uit deskundigen op elk gebied.

Standards Development Proces

Any person from each sector can submit a proposal to the SSB for the development of a standard, by completing a New Work Item Proposal (NWIP).
The proposal is presented to the sector for evaluation to find out whether there is a need for such a standard.
A Technical Committee (TC) is installed, in which experts from different stakeholders work together on a draft standard.
Draft National Standard is sent out for Public Enquiry (2 months).
The Final Draft National Standard is sent to the SSB Board for approval.
National Standard is Published.

Labelcheck

All prepackaged goods sold in Suriname must comply with legal labelling requirements. These requirements are set out in the national standard SSB 003:2013, which has been in force as a technical regulation since 2014. During the Label Check, the Suriname Standards Bureau (SSB) assesses whether your label complies with the applicable requirements. The Label Check helps importers, distributors, and manufacturers ensure that their products comply with legal requirements before being placed on the market. Barcode Service

The Suriname Standards Bureau generates Suriname barcodes in collaboration with the company GS1. Barcodes allow products to be uniquely identified. In other words, barcodes enable products to be sold both online and in stores, nationally and internationally. One barcode per product: Every product and every product variant (style, color, content) receives its own unique GS1 barcode. For more information about the Barcode service click here.

Complaints Service

Do you have a complaint regarding compliance with technical regulations? You can submit a complaint in the following ways:

In person at the SSB office;
By telephone via the complaints line 532267;
Via electronic communication (info@ssb.sr, facebook, SSB website);
Via COZA- app
You will receive a confirmation letter that the complaint has been received and is being processed, and a written response within six weeks of submitting the complaint.

Training

Training is a crucial tool that can be used to develop employees' ability to bring about improvement or facilitation within the organization.
